Leveraging Design and Collaboration to Drive Progress in Mental Health and Substance Use Policies

The Kennedy Forum & Pyxis Partners (Think-Tank)

In the dynamic and evolving world we live in, the significance of mental health and substance use has emerged as a pressing concern of national importance. This realization prompted The Kennedy Forum and Pyxis Partners to seize an opportunity and honor JFK's enduring legacy surrounding mental health in the 21st century. Their shared vision? To establish a comprehensive, nationwide database that consolidates mental health and substance abuse policies. By doing so, they aim to empower policymakers and advocates with a holistic view of the policy landscape.

Paying Homage to The Kennedy Forum Brand with Actionable Hope

As a subsidiary brand, our objective was to integrate smoothly with the overarching brand identity while maintaining our own distinct presence. This was particularly crucial given The Kennedy Forum's legacy. We successfully incorporated the TKF star emblem and their signature brand yellow, campaign red, and campaign blue to create a visually cohesive yet distinguishable identity that aligns strategically with the industry and subject matter. The addition of modern fonts like Larken and Degular, as well as the use of teal in the palette, allows them to convey some of the core aspects of this sub brand: actionable, holistic, and accessible.

Balancing Clarity & Density

For an effective user experience, the database needed to provide easy scanning of policies while also offering informative details for users seeking more in-depth information. To achieve this, we implemented a simple card view that can accommodate policies of varying lengths. The policy pages were designed to be concise, impactful, and visually appealing, providing a refreshing reading experience after users have engaged with dense policy documents. The upward angle design element conveys a sense of progress and movement, which is further reinforced by custom interactive states used throughout the site.
